About the maker
Giovanni Battista Mesina, born a Sardegnian but raised an Umbrian, likes to refer to himself as 'the shepherd that makes wine'.
To this day the family primarily raise and tend to around 1000 sheep, producing beautiful cheeses, wool and milk. On the hilltop of Pianello, just east off Perugia, is where the farm lies. As of 2017 the vineyard was tiny, with only 3 hectares but plans to expend it to 6-8. The grapes grown are Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Montelpulciano and Vernaccia Rossa, whilst Vermentino and Trebbiano are the white grapes of choice. Giovanni tends to the vines organically and follows the traditional minimal intervention process and bottle re-fermentation to create his pet-nats.See the Vini di Giovanni collection here
