About the maker
With a huge 23 vintages now under his belt, including across France, USA, NZ and Australia, Michael Corbett has a great grounding in working with different climates, different varieties and different cultural practices, leaving him with an exceptional intuitive talent in the cellar.
Michael sources grapes from around the South Australia and whilst the focus is mainly on his two loves, Grenache and Riesling, he does dabble in some other varieties. The two main vineyards he works with are based in Watervale and Blewitt Springs, both of a wise age - 70 and 49 years old respectively - and dry grown. All Vanguardist grapes are tended to by Michael or their farmers with organic and biodynamic principles only. In the natural wine cellar, Michael is fastidious and very detail oriented, long macerations, foudres, older oak and amphora are all interchanged with his wines. La Petite aims to create classic and pure-fruited wines that faithfully represent region and vineyard, but with an extra layer of interest. The V range is more about the experimental spirit.
