Al has completely out-done himself on this bubbly bottle of joy. Making the most of a smoke tainted year, it's a blend of King Valley Pinot Noir (40), Chardonnay (40) and Pinot Meunier (20). Extended wild ferment in some Hungarian oak and stainless steel for 7 weeks before being bottles with residual grape sugar for secondary ferment. We get savoury saline baked pears. Super dry. Not yeasty at all. Beautiful foaminess in the mouth. From Al: 'rose hip and white peach with a sensational structure of preserved lemon acid'.

About the maker

Alistair Reed and Sam Cook, two mates who decided to get into winemaking have been evolving their Konpira Maru vintages since 2014.

Another story of two mates throwing out a few ideas, before you know it they find themselves crafting some special wine. Minimal intervention and maximum love, their wines are just always really easy to drink and fun, as wine should be. Wine comes from the South Burnett and Granite Belt regions in Queensland as well as Kilmore in Victoria. In 2016, they occupied their own Whitlands vineyard, above the King Valley. Farming Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris organically on red soil.
