2019 Songs From Mars 'Black Sallad' Field Blend

Eden Valley, South Australia

Juicy, textural, floral on the palate with lavender and potpourri. Textured orange. A field blend from an 80 year old mixed planting at the Stonegarden Vineyard in Eden Valley (Muscat, Riesling, Crouchen, and Verdelho, with small amounts of Sauvignon blanc and a Mataro vine or two). Hand picked, destemmed, and fermented on its skins in an open-top vat for five days, receiving twice daily punchdowns. After five days of skin contact it was basket pressed down to 300L barrique, where it finished fermentation and rested for 10 months

About the maker

With experience and collaborations from a diverse range of regions and people, Matthew Rorick created Forlorn Hope as means to bridge California's viticultural potential and its diverse viticultural history.

A guitar maker, player and food fanatic, Matthew believes that winemaking revolves around stories. Every glass is a tale of a season, soil, history, vision, of careful planning and pure chance. All the Forlorn Hope are produced with the purity, energy and passion we have now come to expect from such new age winemakers. Matthew believes strongly that the site and farming produce everything that we should find in a bottle of wine.
