About the maker
Considered one of Catalunya's natural wine pioneers, Laureano Serres turned his back on the huge boom of conventional wine in Catalunya during the 90s.
From working in a co-operative for many years, to starting his own label, it's been Laureano's choice to farm organically and create more 'traditional' style of wine. In 2002 he inadvertently forgot to add SO2 to his wines and this opened the door to continuing without it. He looks after six hectares scattered around El Pinell and Terra Alta ranging 170 to 500 metres above sea level. The topsoil is very shallow meaning the vines have to dig deep into the limestone bedrock below to source nutrients. This results in a unique expression of wines from the area. Varieties farmed include macabeo, grenache, carignan and others. His whites usually involve small amounts of skin contact or are direct pressed and his reds often involve a different method of fermentation using field blends throughout. His wines are produced only in small quantities and his personal energy, love and passion certainly transcends these wines.See the Laureano Serres collection here
