About the maker
In the rolling hills of Sicily's interior, the middle of nowhere, lies the incredible Lamoresca vines with the smouldering Etna in the distance.
Filippo Rizzo's plot is planted to native Sicilian grapes like a Nerocapitano (Frappato) for the reds, and the extremely rare Vermentino Corso for his white. The area covers five hectares and vines are up to 60 years old, planted over a mix of sand and clay at an elevation of 430 metres above sea level. There are enormous temperature differentials between day and night over summer, unusual for what is otherwise normally a moderated summer climate. The vineyard work is practical and organic, with Filippo choosing to pair things right back to let the character of these special grapes shine through. The wines are striking. Compact, powerful, full of energy but riddled with complexity and flavours that are rarely experienced.See the Lamoresca collection here
