2019 Ephemera Vermentino

Yarra Valley/Heathcote, Victoria

100% Vermentino using de-stemmed fruit fermented on skins for 6 days with no plunging or pumping over. It was then pressed off to aged barriques and hogsheads for natural primary and malolactic fermentation, resting on full lees for 3 months. Prior to bottling the wine is racked once with a small amount of sulphur added before bottling. Funky spicy nose. Slightly musty and very aromatic. Think peaches and cooked apples. Palate is crisp and dry. Nice subtle citrus bitterness.

Led by Rhen Dodd and Janelle De Gabriele, Ephemera Wines are an exploration of the Victorian terroir with the sustainable and thoughtful viticulture mindset.

The duo focus on a lot Italian varieties, including Negoramaro, Sangiovese and Vermentino from a combination of their home block in the Yarra Valley as well as vineyards in the Heathcote region. All their grapes are organically grown and the wines continue to evolve in taste each year.
