2019 Domaine Nakajima Rosé Pet-Nat

Nagano Prefecture, Japan

Made from the table grape variety Kyoho, which has large berries. After harvest they are dried for two weeks prior to being pressed without any skin contact and fermented in bottle without sulphur or other additives. Once fermentation is finished, the wine is bottled with some fresh juice. The result is a cloudy, lightly fizzy, pale pink in colour, guava bomb with linear citrus and red cherry fruit. About the maker

Former chef student, Yutaka Nakajima fell in love natural wine and after experience in the Loire and Baden (Germany) in 2011 he planted his vineyard in Tomi with the winery following in 2014.

Yutaka's vineyards are beautifully situated on a south-facing hillside, at altitude. The first plantings were Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. His more recent plantings are Pinot Gris, and has recently attempted to plant some Savagnin, Ploussard and Trousseau on new land that he has acquired. Winemaking is all natural: there are no sulfites added until bottling when there is a small addition if necessary. As with all Japanese wines these wines are extremely limited, allocations are small. .
