2019 Domaine de la Tourlaudiere Bohale Muscadet sur lie

Loire Valley, France

A long lineage in winemaking doesn't necessarily make a good winemaker. However Romain has it in spades. This Muscadet or Melon de Bourgogne is a variety that used to be grown in Burgundy somehow making it's way to the Loire. 8 months of lees (dead yeast) to build texture and zero sulphites, this guy has the depth of a Jura Chardonnay, fruit forward (green apples), fresh and mineral driven delicious drop. Light, dry and high in acid it calls for some lunch time shellfish.

About the maker

This little estate is located in Vallet, the heart of Muscadet, near the city of Nantes and not far from the Atlantic coast.

A family vineyard in action since the 17th century and with Romain’s father starting his first vintage in 1976. Romain is now is taking over the estate and has converted most of the vineyard to organic practices. He has also been experimenting with a few of the cuvees since he came on board in 2007, blending modern winemaking techniques with traditional ones. A winemaker to watch in the coming years, making incredible and eclectic white wine from the famous Melon de Bourgogne variety.
