2019 CRE Yarra Valley Shi-raz Shiraz

The name Shi-raz, came from the boys wanting to make sure people know this was not your ordinary Shiraz. It's light and lean because of the reduced use of skin contact, yet still has nice line of acidity and persistent fruit forward finish. Grown by the Trist family at the Queenstown Vineyard in St. Andrews. 20 years old vines on primarily Siltstone and mudstone. Cared for thoughtfully and sustainably with plans to convert to organic. The wine goes through carbonic maceration for 3 days, pressed to oak and then spends only 3 months in barrel. Served best chilled.

About the maker

JonJo and Oliver are two buddies, experimenting with growing a few grapes and making light-hearted, fun and tasty lo-fi wines.

Down in the Yarra, JonJo and Oliver are making some pretty pleasurable and entertaining wines with not much equipment. The wines are wild fermented, often involve the use of whole bunches, skin contact and time in barrel. This year the grapes are sourced from the Yarra Glen and St Andrews. They are quite simply easy to drink.
