2019 Château Acid Grenache

Central Ranges, New South Wales

It's Charlie and Simon's first go at Grenache and by god is it good. Like really good. From the same block as their Vermentino, on sandy decomposed granite at 400m asl. They floated Grenache bunches (this wine) in direct pressed juice of 60/40 Grenache/Syrah (their 19 Rosato) for one month, essentially making a sort of semi-carbonic tea, draining the juice to barrel to become the Rosato and pressing the Grenache bunches into separate barrels to become this wine here. Turbo cherry, hint of Campari bitterness, aniseed and a prickle of acidity, super stable, has been in bottle for 6 months.

About the maker

Charlie O’Brien and Simon Jones decided one day to set out and create a fun label that spoke to people instantly, choosing a name that played on the mid 80s and early 90s underground cultural movement.

Sourcing organic and biodynamic grapes from the Central Ranges in New South Wales, Chateau Acid is a partnership that captures the passion of two good mates. Charlie also produces some pretty cool music, DJs regularly in Sydney and casually runs a non-for-profit called Heaps Decent that engages young people through music. What started as a 650 bottle first vintage, is now growing and improving with the 2018 release of the bianco, rosé and red.
