About the maker
The quiet town Oggau, in eastern Austria, is home to Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe who are making wines from a re-claimed vineyard that are shocking the wine world.
Having restored a 17th century winery that had been abandoned for 20 years, beginning to immediately harvest grapes biodynamically was a relatively straight forward task. Prior to this, Eduard made conventional wine in Styria and Stephanie operated a Michelin star restaurant. Each bottle has it's own fictional character/persona, as noted by the face artworks on the bottles. children, Atanasius, Theodora, and Winifred, are bolder wines, where as the parents, Oschuari, Emmeram, Timotheus, and Josephine have more body and power. Most of the vineyards grapes are blended, so there will often be little reference to the grape variety, however, the main grape varieties they do work with are Blaufrankish, Zweigelt Grüner Veltliner, Welchriesling, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Gewurtzraminer.
