2018 Claus Preisinger 'Kalkundkiesel' Field Blend

Burgenland, Austria

This wild blend of Weissburgunder, Gruner Veltliner, Welschriesling and Muscat Ottonel spends between 5 to 14 days on skins in a mixture of large barrels and amphorae. It is bottled with its lees which, alongside the amphorae ferment, gives it an incredibly rounded texture. Tons of green apples, flowers and underlying nuttiness. Complex but super vibrant.

About the maker

Claus began making wine with his father as a hobby but in 2000 graduated to running his own which is now 22ha.

Claus received biodynamic certification in 2009 and has a unique connection with his farm which is represented in his wines with true, clear representations of the land. Alongside amazing producers such as Gut Oggau and Christian Tschida, he is leading a wave of fantastic young Austrian winemakers that are producing brave, pure and harmonious wines.
