2018 An Approach to Relaxation 'Nichon' Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Barossa Valley, South Australia

A beautifully layered and delicate lime-flower aromas, lemon curd, honeyed Semillon notes, a mineral spine and a bit of pink grapefruit pithiness from the Sauvignon Blanc. Nichon is a blend of 90% Semillon (65-year-old vines) and 10% Sauvignon Blanc (25-years-old). A 12-hour cycle of basket pressing allowed the juice to take in some aromatic and structural integrity from the skins. It was then barrel fermented in French Oak.

Inspired by the revered Chateauneuf-du-Pape of Chateau Rayas, Richard Betts and Carla Rza Betts looked to the Barossa to create their own unique expression of the region.

Their pocket of the Barossa, with sandy soils and evening winds, gives wines of the area a recognisable charm and elegance. Further enchanting these two vibrant Americans are the incredibly old and gnarled bush vines of the Vine Vale area. To maintain the uniqueness of the area all wines are naturally fermented, unfined and unfiltered.
