2017 Scout Chardonnay

Adelaide Hills, South Australia

This wine is a strong rep for great Australian made Chardonnays. Notes with guidance from Sarah. The chard is from two different sites in the Adelaide Hills. The Piccadilly Valley: high-altitude (550 metres), cold and east facing, giving a lot of drive to the wine. A portion of fruit is from Lobethal, bringing roundness and depth of flavour to the wine. Both from quartz soil and all fruit is handpicked.

Majority was whole bunch pressed to old barriques, wild fermented with full solids and minimal stirring. Some of the Lobethal fruit was fermented on skins for seven days before basket pressing to barrel. This gave a little texture to the wine, complimenting the fine acid line. A nice big Chardonnay, a good chunk of oak, hints of citrus, acidity to give it a crispness and a decent amount of fruit flavour. Will get better with time this one.

About the maker

Sarah and Greg make wines that nicely represent both their home regions and the charactersitics associated with them; South Australia and South Island in New Zealand.

Rotating between South Australia and South Island of New Zealand, Sarah and Greg are building a wealth of knowledge and experience around these locations to not only source quality fruit, but understand and refine how they can create dynamic wines with such. Both are extremely passionate about what they do and this certainly prevails through their wines.
