Will Rikard-Bell has gone to town with carbonic maceration for 9 weeks, lifting and energising what can often be a dull variety. After a wild ferment the wine then spends 10 months in oak. The vineyard on Mount Canobolis would have to be one of the highest vineyards in Australia (1390m) so naturally higher in acidity, but fresh and structured. We get soft red fruits and light as a feather in the mouth. Enchanting olives. Pair with some soul-warming winter meals.

About the maker

Mountain People is a personal project of Tom Egan from Jed Merchants made by Will Rikard-Bell of Rikard wines.

All the fruit is sourced on Mount Canobolas near Orange, home to some of Australia's highest vineyards. The fruit is managed sustainably by owners Justin and Pip Jarrett. The notorious William Rikard-Bell has been told to let loose with the fruit in the cellar, breaking boundaries and exploring the other side to these varieties. The wines are incredible value, great fun and easy-drinking.
