2017 Montesissa Emilio 'Rosissima' Pet-Nat Rosé

Emilia - Romagna, Italy

This delicate pétillant naturel (bottle fermented for fizziness) is a blend of Barbera and Bonada, producing a sparkling rosé that is typical of the region. The grapes are hand-harvested in small wooden boxes and gently pressed immediately. Spontaneous fermentation on indigenous yeasts. After a winter break on its fine lees, bottling is conducted in the Spring with no filtration. Sour cranberry/maraschino cherry. Light with soft effervescence and cloudy in the glass. Perfect for a warm summer evening with some pre-meal snacks.

About the maker

Home to La Stoppa, Denavolo, the hills of Val Charo in Emilia-Romagna, were once beaches. It is here where Elisabetta is producing beautiful rustic and terroir driven natural wines.

Grapes have been cultivated on the hills of Val Chero since Roman time. It's by 'lovingly respecting nature and biological cycles' that third generation winemaker, Elisabetta Montesissa cares for the estate's ten hectares of vineyards. Majority of the wine is left untamed and completely wild in order to protect biodiversity. All the grapes are both hand-harvested and tended to following biodynamic principles.
