2016 Lou Y es-tu? Beaujolais-Villages ‘Vieilles Vignes'

16 Beaujolais is the bomb! Made from immensely old and certified organic 80-100+year-old vines, producing extremely but concentrated low yields. The grapes are hand-harvest and carbonically macerated for 9 days before fermentation completed in concrete tanks. Deep spicy nose, with meat and berries. Nice texture, fresh and clean. Hints of granite minerality and nice tart/sour cherry and pomegranate notes, in amongst darker rock flavours. We absolutely froth Lou Y es-tu and this one is no exception.

About the maker

Stephen Durieu started Lou. Y Es-Tu back in 2000, although his family have been making wine in the area since 1755. The entire domaine has had organic certification since 2007

Stephen and Mathilde maintain around 7ha in vineyards, mainly in the commune of Saint Saint-Étienne-des-Oullières. The vines range from 30 years of age to over 100 years old. These old vines are very low yielding, but produce extremely concentrated and complex fruit. The soils are predominately made up of granite, but you can find quartz and all sorts of ancient rock in amongst the vines, all key to the the detail you find in the final product. The wines are all vinified in the same way - carbonic maceration, no tricks, and no additives, except for 10ppm SO2 at bottling. Élevage is for different lengths of time depending on cuvée, and all are in concrete tanks
