2015 Diego Conterno Barolo

Monferrato, Italy

Diego Conterno's winemaking and viticulture ancestry goes back to his great-grandfather in the early 1900s. Everything is very traditional and simple. All of the wines are fermented naturally and slowly in a mix of stainless steel cement and then aged in cement & 25-50 hectolitre bottle. This is one of those extremely rare Barolo, notes of plum, red berries and oak in the nose. Palate is medium full with plum and rosehip, well integrated tannins, medium length.

About the maker

Diego Conterno’s Barolo winemaking roots go back to the turn of the 20th century with his Great-Grandfather, Lorenzo Conterno bottling the famous ‘Ginestra’ cru

Diego embarked on his own journey in 2003. He bottled a tiny 1300 bottles of Barolo ‘Ginestra’ and now the family own 7.5 hectares of vines within the village of Monforte d’Alba including part of the iconic ‘Ginestra’ cru, one the jewels in Barolos crown. Total production is 4500 cases. The vineyards are planted to Dolcetto, Barbera, Nascetta (arriving later in the year) and Nebbiolo and vine age is between 7-50 years, all of which are farmed organically. Thanks to Addley Clarke for the notes.
