2011 Gravner Ribolla Gialla

Rated in the top 1% of wines in the world globally. This Ribolla by Josko is an experience. It's not easily drinkable, but best served with food and friends, amber/orange in colour with oozing perfumes of sweet oranges, honey and elevating spices. 2011 had plenty of sun with ripeness and very little Botrytis. This is fab wine to drink now but will benefit from another 3-5 years in the bottle. A pretty monumental wine that is hard to come by.

About the maker

Josko Gravner may be less heard of than the likes of Saša Radikon, but his wines are of elite status amongst the Fruili Italians

Josko started making wine at the ripe age of 16. After 10 years of using barrels he decided it was time to experiment with clay amphora. Since that day he has never looked back. Fruit is hand harvested by the moon after late ripening and undergoes a seven year cycle of fermentation and aging: 1 year in amphora and 6 in oak, reflecting the regeneration pattern of cells in our bodies. Bottling is done in accordance with the lunar cycle. He has worked the vineyard and cellar by hand, without chemicals, releasing wines 7 years after harvest and with a passion that is hard to match, he is now producing some of the country's most precise, elegant and complex wines from this esteemed area of Italy.
