2010 La Stoppa 'Macchiona' Barbera Bonarda

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Head winemaker at Denavolo, this is Guilio Armani's own label. If you like big, bold and earthy reds. This is your calling. A blend of Barbera and Bonarda, 40 days of maceration on skins and then aged in huge Slovenian oak barrels. Lots of leather, mushrooms, tobacco and vanilla. Lots of acid in the mix to keep it trickling down. Decant for a generous hour.

2010 La Stoppa 'Macchiona' Barbera Bonarda
About the maker

With Guilio Armani (Denavolo) at the helm, La Stoppa have made some of the most sought after natural wines in Italy.

The estate practices organic viticulture with only copper and sulphur treatments used. The vines are planted at a density of 6000 vines per hectare producing incredibly low yields with local varieties Malvasia di Candia, Ortrugo, Trebbiano, Bonarda, Barbera and also small parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Grapes are hand harvested and the winemaking process is in tune with the natural wine philosophy, no yeast additions, no fining, no filtration and sulphur only used at bottling for the young wines and Malvasia frizzante and none at all for the rest.
