Sextant

Julien Altaber is not your typical Burgundian. Raised by dairy farmers, rather than inheriting vines like other vignerons in the region, he had to elbow his way into the rebellious side of Burgundy that is organic and natural winemaking.

Having met Dominique Derain, the two got on like a house on fire and Dominique decided that Julien could work for him in exchange for making a few barrels for himself and assist in helping him find some land to purchase. In 2011 this happened. Julien found some beautiful and uncloned Aligoté vines, followed by some Pinot in the hills of Maranges and simultaneously began working with various farmers in Saint Aubin. Julien's wines are exceptionally pure, elegant and complex. They showcase some incredible terroir in a really discrete manner.
