Loïc Mahe

From humble beginnings, Loïc Mahé is situated in on of the most exceptional appellations for Chenin in the Loire Valley and has followed biodynamic farming principles since day dot.

Loïc farms 11ha of Chenin Blanc, and a small plot of Cabernet Franc for red. He is also gradually reducing his holdings, in a never-ending quest to improve quality, even at the expense of quantity. All the vineyards are facing directly south on the gentle slopes above the escarpment north of the Loire River. The vineyards are predominantly blue and red schist under a very thin top soil of wind-blown sands. The wines are ultra pure and mineral driven, with a nice amount of generosity in contrast to other winemakers in Savennières who generally overuse new oak and likely too much sulfur. The wines are refreshing and always showing off the shale element in the wines.
