2018 Sigurd Rosé Blend

Southern Barossa, South Australia

A cracking 4.1 on Vivino, think crunchy, crisp and aromatic fruit salad. Not too sweet but full of fruity flavour. Notes from Sigurd. Grenache (50%), Mourvedre (19%), Syrah (11%), Pinot Gris (9%), Gewurtztraminer (9%). Grapes are sourced from Southern Barossa. Mostly whole bunched pressed to old French oak puncheons (500L) to ferment out to dryness with some being left on skins for 1 to 2 days. A small amount of sulphur was added before bottling.

About the maker

Sigurd Wines is based around Daniel Graham's great grandfather who spawned from Norway. With a double degree in Wine and Viticulture, Daniel spent some years making wines in the Barossa before starting a label of his own.

The Matassa brand has built an extremely reputable name amongst the natural winemaking community and rightly so. The wines have changed significantly over the years following an improvement in the health of the vineyard due to Tom's profound care for them. As a natural progression so too have things changed in the cellar. Domaine Matassa is distinguished not purely because of these beautifully maintained old Catalan varietals and vines, but also his sense of adventure and experimentation with the wines. A warning note, these wines are not your classical southern French wines, they are low yielding, excruciatingly terroir driven wines.
